Erythronium hendersoniiProbably the most exotic-looking Erythronium of all, hendersonii has translucent petals in shades of silver, pale lilac and lavender. They arch upwards exposing contrasting deep lavender centers with long stamens. These exqusite flowers are held on nodding stems of 20cm (8"), above glossy mottled foliage. This is also a floriferous variety, with up to 10 flowers per plant. Erythronium hendersonii is named after the botanist, Louis F Henderson, and it is native to southwest Oregon and the tip of Northern California, where many other varieties grow. Here it may flower as early as February, but as late as May in colder areas. Like most Erythroniums, hendersonii does best in light shade and soil that is fairly dry, but not completely dry during the summer. Here it will establish quickly and naturalize well.
